PBIS

POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION & SUPPORT (PBIS)

PBIS is a process for creating safer and more effective schools. It includes school-wide procedures and processes intended for all.

NPE’s Expectations:

Be Honest

Encourage Others

Act Responsibility

Respect Others

Safety First

These are enforced with specific rules throughout the school and in the classroom. NPE also uses a school-wide computerized system called Class DOJO and interventions for when these expectations are not met. The system is as follows:

A+ = No Negative DOJOs

A-= 1 Negative – warning/reteach expectation

B = 2 Negatives – loss of privilege (5 min.)

C = 3 Negatives – loss of privilege (10 min.)

D = 4 Negatives – loss of privilege (15 min.)

F = 5 Negatives – PBIS Board Referral/Office Referral

These interventions are used for minor behaviors such as certain inappropriate language, minor physical contact, non-compliance, disruption, and property misuse. Teachers use Class DOJO to keep track of minor offenses in all school locations. When you are signed up for the system, you will also receive notifications throughout the day. If there is a compilation of minor offenses within a day, a student will be referred to the PBIS Board rather than being automatically referred to the office for these behaviors. However, a third referral to the PBIS Board within a semester will result in a child being brought to the office and an SBLC scheduled to develop an individualized behavior plan. Major behaviors will be directed immediately to the office. These include but are not limited to blatant disrespectful defiance, threats, excessive destruction of property, fighting, stealing (over $10/repeat offenders), alcohol/drugs, weapons, sexual offenses, and excessive minor behavior offenses. A referral to the office will be an automatic F in conduct for the day and the Administration will follow the VP Discipline Plan.
